What We Are Doing on the Badger Cull

In contrast to our other campaigns the badger cull is based in the UK and offers limited scope for work on the ground. Therefore the main focus of our work on this issue is communicating information to the public and mobilising supporter engagement whenever the government renews pressure on badgers.

Campaigning:
Network lobby MPs on behalf of supporters as well as coordinate letter writing campaigns and petitions to facilitate public engagment with the campaign.  We believe that keeping the issue high on the public agenda is crucial to maintaining pressure on the government, therefore we frequently highlight the badger cull issue via social media and direct mail.

Public Information:
We regularly liaise with other organisations, scientists and politicians to keep up to date with developments on the badger cull so that we can disseminate this information to the public.

Supporting other organisations:
In 2011 Network gave the Badger Trust a grant to help with their high level legal challenge against the badger cull.  The costs of challenging a government policy through law can be phenomenally high, so we are proud to have helped support this action.  We also give regular support to Cornwall Badger Rescue, a small operation in St Ives which aims to rescue and rehabilitate injured badgers across the whole county.
