Badger Cull
Take Action Now!

Wales currently has the worst rate of TB infection in cattle in the UK. Against expert scientific advice, the Welsh Assembly insists on pursuing plans to go ahead with a Badger cull in Wales. The same evidence applied in England also applies to Wales – culling makes matters worse and is a costly and an unsuccessful exercise. NFA are calling on the Welsh Assembly to review the evidence before going ahead with the cull.

NFA is working closely with former, DEFRA Minister Rt Hon Alun Michael MP who is subsequently supporting the work of Lorraine Barrett AM in culling for a revised Assembly position. Rt Hon Alun Michael said, ‘Calls for a badger cull, based on the believe that culling badgers will protect herds from Bovine TB has been proved wrong – but it doesn’t stop them believing it. We need to ensure that the Assembly follows DEFRA, England response to sound, rational scientific advice’

NFA are urging the Minister for Rural Affairs, Elin Jones AM, review the Welsh decision and to follow the positive actions of England. Culling would make no meaningful contribution to bovine (TB) control.

The problem in Wales requires the same solution as England. If the Minister continues to pursue badger culling, the outlook for badgers is horrific.
